ANNA BENTON (21) - Became pregnant at age 16 with her son, SAM. Now, she’s taken charge of her life by making it through her freshman year at college, balancing stresses of motherhood and homework. As a young mother, she lost the freedom most of her peers enjoy. She has become firecely self-sufficient to provide for her son, bold and strong-willed.

SAM BENTON (8) – Only-child of a single mother forced to entertain himself. Enjoys elaborate games with his action figures, likes to draw and fancy himself an artist. Mischievous, rugged, observant, resourceful for his age.

RICHARD GRAVES (60s) – Respected in the community, retired to the low-key station as head of college health center. Lives in a comfortable apartment, takes advantage of access to the school’s resources, facilities, and – malevolently – the student body. Calm, cool, calculating. Harbors a deep-seated moral self-righteousness.

TILLER (24) - Med student in campus health office. Book-smart, articulate, by-the-books.

LETHAN (23) – Outgoing, chipper, Christian. Studying to become an elementary schoolteacher.

EMMA (21) – Friend of ANNA, fun-loving and impulsive, counterpoint to ANNA.
